Watching my sailfin tang today and noticed him nipping at an open brain coral and a rose euphyllia. Not sure why this is happening! I feed daily and provide a very broad diet.

They sometimes just take a fancy to your corals.

Some fish are just that way. Tangs have been known to nip at Lps corals. Generally like 95% of the time they are completely reef safe. From research it seems the tangs from the zebrasoma group, or sailfin tangs are more prone then others.

I don't keep it in the tank, but offer it here and there. Maybe I shall try the rubber band to rock trick as he kills the clip and nori floats to the overflow.

Rose euphyllia pic on the top right corner: (wow, old pic, things have grown so much since then! :) )

Tangs sometimes like to eat coral. Like you said above, try offering nori daily and see if that makes a difference.

Euphyllia is the genus of torches, frogspawn, hammer, and others.

It looks to be a hammer or torch.

I know what euphilias are, but I have never heard of a red / rose one . . . just trying to figure out what is being sampled by the tang. looks nothing like a torch to me, too hard to tell from the pic / description to tell for sure.
