I'm thinking of getting a baby tang for my seventy give gal tank. I was thinking either a yellow, or a yellow eyed tang. The tank currently has a wolf eel, and a snowflake moray, both about 10 inches long. How aggressive are they? are they completely reef safe? what kind of problems have you had with them? what is feeding like?

Hmmm I have a feeling that any Tang and eels is not a good mix (I haven't researched it but just doesn't seem good). It's good you are looking for advice on one before just throwing one in. A 75g tank would get too cramped if you're looking to keep the Tang in their for life. They recommend tanks of 100g more because Tangs love to swim and need lots of room. Many of them are susceptible to disease when stressed & being trapped in a small tank can bring stress on.

IMO if you wanted to use your tank to grow a Tang out (a Yellow Tang maybe) & then upgrade, that would be the right thing to do. You will see that many of them grow very quickly, eat like pigs, etc. I attempted to keep a blue hippo in a 55g and it grew very fast, became very aggresive towards the other fish. It was a pain getting it out and I had wished I never gotten it before researching more.

Best of luck, ask questions before getting one that will save you a headache later.

I have a Blue Hippo, Purple, Chevron, and Desjardini Sailfin. Out of all them the antics of the Blue Hippo are the most amusing. IMO the Purple is the nicest looking and the bossiest. Feeding is fairly easy. Just drop a rock with Nori rubberbanded on it into the tank and watch the tangs destroy it.
