Ok at the moment I have a yellow tang in my 40g breeder, and Im trying to make sure what other fangs I can add. He yellow tang has been in the tank for about 3 days and I found a Kole yellow eyed tang that is sweet looking and I'm wondering if they will play nice together?

Im also trying to figure out this hole tang grouping thing. Being that their is alot of sweet tangs out their that I love. I've been told and read to look at the shape of them. Could someone go into some good detail on this so I can chouse wisely and not have a blood bath on my hands :)

I would say the tank isn't big enough for one tang, let alone two. That yellow really won't be happy in a 40 much too small. Sorry to say.

to be honest, another tang let alone a yellow dont work well in a 40. adding a 2nd, even with different body shapes most likely wont work well. not enough swimming space for them , and the needed algae for them to pick away at. but yes , body styles do make a difference. ive got a kole and a prple together. even then the 1st night was horrible, the purple showing who was boss. all is good now tho.

Hum well how long do you all think it will take him to out grow my tank? I was planning on just keeping him till then and then sale or trade him off.

He is 1 to 1.5 inches in size atm.

i dont think theres any real guideline as to how fast he will grow. you will just have to monitor that. hopefully he grows slow so you can enjoy him for a bit

I control the growth of mine by limiting algae intake. Has worked very well so far.

having a yellow tang...or any tang in a 40 shouldnt be done. i had a yellow tang in my 55 for a month and returned it. the tank did not have enough room i got sick of seeing the tang try to swim fast and just have to come to an ubrupt stop at the glass. i will not put any tang in anything less than a 125 gallon (6 foot long) tank.

This is not healthy. Tangs NEED a good amount of algae in their diet. I'm sorry but trying to stunt the growth of your tang is not a good strategy.

Well I guess I will just keep him for a little so he can eat up the bryopsis algae that I'm trying to clear out of the tank. Their is lots of it so he never stops eating and seams happy for know.

Guess I should start looking for a good replacement, Any look a likes out their. Somthing close to the yellow tang and the Kole tang? Somthing small enough for a 40?

    Thanks for the help btw
