Which tangs, if any, would be comfortable in a 75 gallon reef tank? The dimensions are 48x18x20. My current plan is to have a pair of Ocellaris Clownfish, a Blue & Gold Blenny, a small goby of some sort, plus a tang, if I have room for one in my tank.

    Opinions?

A bristle tooth tang would be okay, maybe a kole or tomini. I've kept a Yellow, but to be honest, once it got big, it just looked stupid in a little 75g... just my .02 though.

I have a scopis tang in my 75 and he seems to be just fine. I had a long discussion with my LFS prior to the purchase and was assured that it would be ok. Could I have been misled? He is maybe 2 inches, eats well, gets along with the clown, damsel and 2 cardinal s with no problems. I ve had him for about 5 months and he is very healthy.

You were absolutely misled. While you may get away with it while it is small as it grows it may show increased aggresion and health issues.LA calls for a Min. 125 gallons but IMO even that is too small for a fish that can grow to almost a foot in length.:(

I was afraid that would be the case. I almost pulled the trigger on a 155 bow front the other day but backed away from it at the last minute for various reasons. Guess the tang will be as good an excuse as any to upgrade sooner rather than later. Any idea what the growth rate i can expect.....that'll give me a chance to start prepping the wife!

I have never had this particular Tang becuase of the mature size I would always avoid it. IME healthy Tangs grow at a fairly fast rate but lately I have been thinking that some stunting must occur with these fish as all the people I hear say they are slow growers are keeping them in small tanks.Heres an example of a my present Tangs growth rate in a 90 gallon aquarium. Just keep in mind growth rates can differ but the larger species tend to grow faster.
P.S. sorry to Morgan did not mean to hijack your thread. Didn't realise who the O.P. was when I responded.
