Best Tang Police pic ever... lol.

I have a 4" yellow tang, and 3" hippo in my 90gal. I think dimensions are important to look at. They need length to run around in...

I have a 75 gallon Reef tank and have three tangs.

I have had a Hippo tang since February of 2007, who actually started out its life with me in a 29 gallon tank.

After my reef had been up for several months I bought a quarter sized Yellow tang in November of 2008. The last addition was a Kole tang in December of 2008.

They are all still in my 75, all seem to be very happy. I base that statement on the fact that none of them including my Hippo exhibit any of the stress related signs like racing from one end of the tank to the other end that some do.

He swims along at a leisurely pace unless I am feeding then he races back and forth grabbing all the biggest pieces that he can.

FREEZE, it's the Tang Po Po :). How big are the Kole & Hippo? You may get a citation for 3 in a 75g

Indefinitely. The tank is 48" long, and the only difference between my tank and a 120 gallon is 6" of width.

Call me crazy, but seems fish should be proportional to their environment, but to each their own. I don't really care what you keep though, I have no investment in your tank, but a hippo tang gets about foot long, just remember the pic ;)

As far as having 3 in a 75, this is not my first "tango", I have had 3 before and never had a problem.

The Kole is now about 2.5 to 2.75" tip to tip. The Kole tang is in my opinion one of the best tangs to have in a smaller tank, LiveAquaria states that a 70 gallon tank is sufficient for them and that they get to be 7". I honestly have never seen one any larger that 4 to 5" in captivity, only in the wild and those were rare. They are very hardy fish and seem to take to Captivity very well unlike some others like the powder Blues & Browns

The Hippo is almost 4" but he really has not grown since I got him, other than outward, and I assure you this guy eats like a pig. I do not think he was taken care of when he was young which was before I got him, he was a rescue and was at least 2 years old possibly more. Since I got him he has only grown maybe a 1/2 at the most.

The only one I really have to worry about is the Yellow, he's is almost 4.5" has about another 3 months or so and he will be 5" which is when he will be taking a trip to the LFS to be traded in for another Quarter sized one.

So then I should not be stressing about wanting to put one in my new 90 gallon tank.

Nope, my tank is 48Lx18Wx24H and is 90 gallons.

A typical 120 gallon tank is 48Lx24Wx24H. Just 6 inches more in width...
