well if they are white spots it sounds like ick. Its a dinoflagellate (parasite) that hosts the skin of a fish. The fish are more susceptible to it when stressed.
the addition of the cleaner shrimp probably caused some stress. Cleaner shrimp have been known to pick ick off of fish thus the name cleaner shrimp.

    Treatment:
if your tank is healthy and well maintained the risk is minimal. You will always have the parasite in your water but your fish become "more immune" to it after exposure.

You can speed up the parasite's metabolism by increasing the temperature, this will also allow your fish to boost their immune system. Or plan B is to use a copper based ick treatment. CAUTION: copper based medications will kill all inverts and corals so the fish must be quarantined for this type of treatment

as long as you reduce the stressor in your tank then your fish should recover :)

Increased temps speeding up the life cycle has only been proven in freshwater ich. Give this a read and come to your own conclusion on how you want to treat your fish.

If it where me, as long as hes eating, leave him be for now, no need to stress him out more along with the rest of the tank mates.

my bad on the freshwater thing...

but could have said this: by changing the temperature the concentration of salt (specific gravity) changes. although it will not be a sure fire way to rid ick it will help to reduce reproduction and hinder metabolism of parasite. Im not 100% on the relationship but i believe as temp increases, salt concentration decreases.

Hey buddy. Sorry to hear about the sailfin. I took on an "ich challenge" at the LFS with my purple tang. And we won.

I didn't go through the QT and Cu treatment being that it could more stress and advance the stages of infection.

What I did was add 2 cleaner shrimp, added nori (seaweed strips) presoaked in a garlic solution (Kent Garlic Xtreme). Fed this to her every morning after the normal feeding (Formula 2 pellet, which also has trace garlic) and in the evening. Kept her eating, kept her happy.

Because it is suggested that garlic improves immunity, I would use this as the therapeutic target. And though there were many other unknown variables and cofactors involving the success of my fish, this was the only widely known treatment that I involved.

I hope this helps. Good luck to your sailfin and stay positive.

Is there white spots heavily on the gills?
Normally I would agree with the above that if it's swimming and eating leave it alone. If it's obviously dying you may want to pull it out and give it a fresh water dip. (RO)
How long has it had the spots?
There is also the possibility of clownfish(brooklynella) disease if it went downhill that fast.
