Sadly, 4 years is probably the average in captivity but it doesn't have to be.

Most people end up losing interest and let their tank go downhill.....just sayin. Maintenance isn't kept up, equipment not replaced, moves, yada yada. It's sad but true. I lost my maroon in my move when I bought my house.

Yes, I don't think you understand what I am saying. Four years should not be the average if the animals are cared for correctly. However, I doubt that most hobbyists last a decade much less their fish.

Well here is an update....It took 3 weeks!!! I have never had it last that long, however, they are now BEST friends, swim together, eat together, and are fun to watch. I will post pics later. To all the opinions in the previous posts, I respect your input. Every new fish will go through an initiation period. Some longer than others, and some more EXPENSIVE than others. Price was never an issue. Just an example. I just was trying to say that a lot of people repeat what they hear, and it does not apply to every tank. BTW I also added a Diamond Goby the same day, and he only lasted 48 hrs. I had one last 3 yrs, and I miss him. I have tried to replace him 3 times now, with no luck. Some make it, and some don't. Just sayin"

Just because someone repeats what they hear does not mean they are saying something that is not true.I guess it depends on who they are hearing it from. Choosing cautiously/wisely will increase your chances and for me I feel alot better when I lose an animal knowing that I did all I could to give it the best chance at a long happy life.

well heres the update... caught (rather easily?) and qt'd the naso on friday night...next day was completely covered in ich...fed hard...stopped eating monday morning breathing heavy...did water change in qt tuesday and started cupramine medication(had to try something...), wed morning about 50% less visible ich still breathing a little heavy and dosed second dose of cupramine 48hrs after... today 85% of visible ich has cleared but still breathing heavy and not eating (losing some good mass). The only reason the fish has made it this far is because of the awesome shape it was in. Im using garlic... actually the microbelift garlic (stinks up the house with one spray)... still no go and it used to eat it before i could get the clip on the side... anything else i can do at this point?

really quickly becoming an anti qt person!

This is the reason I don't qt....It's too much stress on the fish. I do a good visual inspection before I buy and then it goes into the display. I have added several fish, with spots, into my display and it's cleared right up. Other folk's results may differ but this is just me.
