I have a 72 gallon reef tank with 2 clowns and a purple tang. My lfs said i have the most agressive tang and would never be able to add another however i really want to put in a yellow tang to would this work?if not what other fish would look cool in my tank?

Your LFS should have known better than to suggest a purple for a 72 Gallon. They can be aggressive and are known to need larger tanks.
Anthias, chromis, cardinals, gobies are all great fish for that sized tank.

NOPE! the only tangs that you could even consider have a similar body shape and thus aren't compatible.

Look into a flasher wrasse, a goby or a orchid dottyback. IMO, though, that tang may make it hard to add much.

At least he didn't tell you to add a yellow tang and waste your money

BLAH, go to the store and watch them for an hour, they barely move. BORING, IMO, I have 3 pajama cardinals you can have. IMO, And with 5 your tank is MAXED out. I'd look into some of the other options. but that's just my opinion, if you dig them, try them, but I'd get 3, have a feeling 5 in that tank would end up 2 or 3 sooner than later.

look into a wrasse, goby, basslet, etc.

wrasses are cool fish for sure. active and great color patterns. only downside , theyre a bit skittish and carpet surf unfortunately. your purple may get it doing that. been there, done that etc. lol. what lfs do you go to?
