Lets see. A 90 gal tank would be good for a yellow tang or chevron tang. It should be enough for a blue tang...but they can get big. A convict tang is good, as well as a kole. Almost forgot the good old scopas tang lol...

Any of the diamond shaped tangs should be good. It is a little small for some of the fast movers like a Soho.

I really want to do a regal, kole, yellow, or sailfin tang. Which one out of these would you put in a 90g?

I love the Powder Blue and Sailfin Tang. They are my favorite two Tang types. Forget the specs needed for the Powder Blue though.

In a 90 gallon, I would only consider a kole, regal or a yellow. Keep in mind that some yellow tangs can be very aggressive.

In another forum, I was recommended to go wit a sailfin because they don't swim long distences like other tangs, is that true?

First time I've heard of such a thing. In fact, most people recommend against sailfin tangs in a 90 gallon because they get so big.

ya thats what i thought, even my LFS said that a 90g is way to small for a sailfin. My LFS also said that a regal tang would get to big for a 90g, would one be ok?

    I agree with amcaring.
I had my sailfin in a 75 for 1.5 yrs and only got him bc. I knew he would be going into a bigger tank. I prefer to stock my tank with many fish and only recommend the sailfin if you are only going to have a few other fish in the tank.
Or wait till the fish gets large and sell it back to the store. I for one would not be able to part with a fish after a few yrs or would want to put the fish in more stress from an additional move.

Keep in mind the sailfin covers most of it's distance horizontally. Thus a 75 and a 90 gal are each 48in across. Where I believe a 100, 120, 150, 180, and 210 are all about 72in across. So comparing a 90gal with someone'es 120 may not seem like a big difference but depending on what you are stocking it can be.
    Hope this helps.
