I want my tang to be one of two "main" fish in the tank, with some smaller fish. This is the biggest tank I can possibly have, since it is on the main floor of my house. my original choice for a tang was a regal tang, but everyone seems to say that a 90 gallon is to small for one. is it?

That one is also on the border.
In my 75 I have the regal / Hippo, salifin, 6 line wrasse, lawnmower blenny, royal gramma, Pseudanthias pleurotaenia - anthias, and a few other small guys. I feel that i'm maxed out in size curretnly and it appears we have simular thoughts.
I worrie was that my tangs would get larger but it is your call.

They both get along great. The sailfin greets everyone who walks into the room while the blue hippo hides like a little baby.

I was looking at a book in my LFS, and I saw an atlantic blue tang. Has anyone had any experience with one of these, and would one be okay in a 90 gallon?

I don't have one, but read that they are good down to 55. That estimate might be a little aggressive.

Maybe a purple tang? They are similar and don't have large tank requirements.

BTW, I have a sailfin in my 90 FOWLER with no problems, but I have massive turnover and 600 gallons in system. Plus I have the 210 and 300 if he keeps growing.

Blade Runner: What other fish do you have in your 90 besides the sailfin?

My sailfin greets every new addition by backing up into them wiggling her bum. I wonder if this is a "hi there, how ya doin and welcome to the family" versus "hi there, just a reminder that this is MY tank and you better watch your step!"

I would tend to go with the latter ;D

    Good call SSSNAKE.
Maybe my sailfin is actually trying to establish dominance over me instead of greeting me as I had thought :)

My oversight (I guess) .... I took your post to mean new fish in the tank.

As far as humans ..... yeah, she's really playful when you walk up to the tank. She thinks it's feeding time and that's why she's reallllly happy :)

Probably more like, "you get any closer, and I'll cut you" :)
