did you wash prewash the sand?

Its normal - you just have to wait for the filtration to do its job.

Hydro, I am also just starting my tank. I've read half the time...rinse the sand... the other half don't rinse the sand. The bag my live sand came in states on the front "no rinsing needed" yet on the back it gives directions for rinsing. I chose not to rinse the sand. Initially the water cleared up in about 48hours, if I don't put my hand to fiddle with something (heather, power heads etc.) if I create any type of disturbance it takes about 10 to 12 hrs to clear again.

The sand I used was "CaribSea Ocean Direct Caribbean live sand" and it came with a bag of magic bio magnet bacteria relocator/clarifier inside, maybe this helped clear the water a bit more quickly (I would rather have had magic monkeys but oh well).

Do you have any sort of mechanical filtration?

for my 120 Gallon tank it took about 4 days to clear.

If it doesnt clear in a week, you need stronger mechanical filter

The cloudiness will clear up. You should add something live to it though, like probably some live rock so it can start the cycle.

mechanical filter is the overflow sponge, the top of the w/d tray and the sponge block before it goes to the return pump.
