Like mentioned above, give it time and it will clear out. Maybe run the skimmer a bit to help out (remember to turn it off when done so cycle will work). I guess if you buy that live sand thing that come in bags with a little water then rinsing will not be beneficial. If its dead then its probably a good idea (but since your cycling who cares)

If you do it the old school way and cycle with fish (many people will disagree ;)), I would say only add 1 damsel (more than enough), or you could cycle with live rock or a piece of dead shrimp.

I would add live rock instead of a damsel. You may grow to hate the damsel like so many of us and not be able to remove it from the tank, not to mention it's cruel to almost kill it just to get your tank going. Also there is a lot of benefit to getting some live rock, all kinds of pods and stuff that will be good for your tank, etc.

don't add any dead shrimp, it looks digusting.

    Just add some live rock.

yeah dont worry about the cloudiness, you are having a bacteria bloom from the sand. I have cycled many tanks without having one, and just recently I cycled a 72g bowfront also, used nonlive sand, did not wash it out and had a massive bloom for about 4 days. I was freaking cause like I said I never had one where the tank was cloudy for more then a night...plus I had live rock in there from my other tanks!

But like mentioned earlier, add live rock and that will help. You can even add some sand from your other tank to help seed the sand faster. I also added a very small amount of fish food to the tank to help the process along better!

    good luck

You can go buy a product called "Crystal Clear" from Aquarium Products.

It is a plant extract that helps bonds those particals together so that your filter can trap them easier. I didnt think it would work but for 3 dollars I bought it added the amount per instructions and 24 hours later is was so clear I didnt see the water.

Welcome to AQUARIUM PRODUCTS | Quality Aquatic & Pet Products

Or you can simply wait it will settle.

Make sure you clean out the sponge several times.

    I never wash the sand.
