Went to get something from the tank stand, and noticed this bulge in the tank frame (not the stand frame, but the TANK).

I just noticed it today. I've had the tank for a little over 5 weeks. It sat in the garage, in it's box for about a week until I got the frame assembled and into place. Then my son and I unpackaged it and brought it in and placed it on the stand. We didn't hit anything on the way into the house, etc... Nothing has bumped into it.

I have 80lbs of sand and a little less than 50lbs of base florida rock in it. I say a little less because I ordered 50lbs, and I used all but one small piece.

looks to be an impact of some sort on the bottom frame. It's hard to say if this will become a problem or not. I'd keep your eye on it, and make sure it doesn't get any bigger. If it starts to, it may cause pressure/stress points on the glass and joints of the tank.

Wonderful. No way to prove that was there before I put the tank into place. This is a new tank. I dont want to spend money on occupants only to have the tank fail on me.

Guess I might as well cut my losses and bail out of this hobby. un-freakin-believable!

ok... Before you bail, there's a good chance it might not be a big deal...

to me, it just looks like the plastic is bent. This could have happened to the plastic before the tank was assembled and the glass could be fine.

I would take a good look at the glass around the bulge. Then, before I put anything else in the tank, I would fill it up with water outside or in a safe place and check it for leaks. It's probably best to do this on the stand, since the stand will support it properly from underneath, and you will have it up on something to take a good look at it... You may want to fill it all the way up just to test that it's going to hold all the water and let it sit overnight.

I'd say if it holds water and the glass looks fine, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Can you contact the place where you bought it and tell them about the issue? maybe they will offer some help/ advice, maybe replacement if you're upfront and tell them that you just unboxed it and found it this way.

I agree with Gabba..check the situation out and exhaust all of your options before quitting. There's alot of rocks in the road you gotta just ride em out or go around but never give up.

The tank has been filled with water since March 9th. No leaks, but, no comfort level here on the quality.

You see, I'm very hesitant to say this company provides quality merchandise. I lost one of the pumps early on. Instead of replacing it with another Hydor pump from them (which RSM offered to do, provided I supply a copy of my receipt), I switched both pumps to MaxiJets.

To think that the tank was damaged while I got it out and placed it on the stand, is just too difficult to believe. All I have is my wife and my 22yr old son who helped me get the tank home from the lfs and into the house. We know we didn't bang the tank on anything. The cardboard that surrounded the tank wasn't damaged at all.

I know the burden of proof is on me. There's nothing I can do to prove otherwise.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's appreciated. I'm just not willing to accept any more risk.

Supplying a copy of the receipt when they're sending you a $90+ pump without even proving your pump is broken really isn't an extraordinary burden. I also told you (or tried to) that they don't use Hydor anymore, they use Sicce for their pumps now; from experience with both, the Sicce works much better for the skimmer, although I haven't had any problems with the Hydor flow pumps either.

They had the new pump to me for my skimmer within 3 days of me faxing the receipt to them; if their merchandise isn't the best quality, they definitely have great customer service to go along with it, and have no qualms about backing their product fully.

I really don't know why you would "cut your losses" about a tiny bulge in the framing of the tank; I had a freshwater 40-something bowfront for about 5 years that had a bulge on the bottom framing on the front bowed section (for approximately the last half of the time I had it, 2 1/2 years) with no problems. It happened when we moved the tank from one house to another. We got it set up before we even noticed it much later on.

I would consider keeping an eye on it, but if it doesn't change in size/shape, I really wouldn't be concerned about the bulge, which is likely cosmetic in nature, given that it's at the very bottom of the plastic.

Did you level the stand and tank.It can flex and dimple it like that after you put all that weight in it.Because I see some flex in the stand that appears to lead right to that spot in the pic.I see something going on with the stand to the left and to the right of that spot.
