I managed to move my entire reef tank 1,400 miles, fully, everything alive to FL from WI. Went and moved boxes for 4 hours today and came back to the entire tank killed. Looks to be caused by my bubble coral blowing up after being attacked by another coral. All the bubbles ruptured, releasing a milky, god-aweful stink throughout the tank. Killed almost everything ,only thing that were semi-kicking were my pair of fake clowns. They're in a hospital 5 gallon pail hopefully recovering.

Nearly $1200 killed in 4 hours. Really not sure what to do now. So mad. May have to dry dock it until I can find a job down here. Thousands of dollars down the hole, Equal amounts of time lost.

    Options?

Do I setup from frags again? Leave the hobby(don't want to) for a while? See if anyone is retiring from the hobby?

    Wow. I can't even imagine.

I would restart, but then again, I am not in the thick of it. I am pretty sure, I will always have a SW tank in my home. I would miss staring into the rocky crevices for new lifeforms.

Sorry for your huge loss biggs! If anything stay with the hobby sounds like you'll have that tank back to itself again in the next 6-12 months.. just get some frags and let them grow. If I ever move, I'll guess I'll have to make something to keep corals from touching in cooler.. maybe egg crate "little holding cells"..

You left me here in WI all alone :((... Sorry to hear about your loss. Some karma for luck!

I personally would try again, I lost my whole tank pretty much back in august. good 1100-1200 in livestock. I was pretty bummed. Started it up slowly and am back to good standings. Take it slow. There are some amazing dealers down in FL, you can get prices way better then here in WI. Trust me on that lol. Id get everything situated in the tank. Find a job... and start back up.

Might as well start it cycling again. Then slowly buy new corals. Maybe 1 coral every couple weeks. Sucks to hear.

what a shame...look at it as an opportunity to start another tank. The best part of the hobby is the new tank part anyway.

I am so sorry for your losses!!! I guess the good thing is that you already have all of the equipment, including rocks. That was the most expensive part for me was the start up. Now that my tank is pretty much complete. It as not as exciting anymore (as far as yearning for that next piece of equipment). I still love my Reef, but it is still just as fun to buy a new fish or coral than it always was. So enjoy re-stocking. It wont cost too much to do a little here and there. You can also correct all the things you wanted to correct last time but couldn't! Best of Luck to you.....Rob
