so i came into my room to find my led nightlights went out overnight,my clownfish dead my ph to be 7.4 and no nitrate or trite my api test kit isent reading any ammonia but the drops are clear? ive never seen them like that before

can having no light on a tank for 24 hours affect your ph i just did a super buffer dkh additive to the tank to bring it back up the tank is also fighting ich and theres only 20 lbs of aragonite and its pink fiji i know the buffer quality isent that good

and lastnight i used a air stone to increase oxygen

    55 gallon tank? IIRC

what fish do you have in there now?

was it only lights out or do you mean power was out?
because if the tank is well stocked
oxygen may have been an issue, build up of CO2 would knock down PH

    Lighting and PH

moonlights are not the issue Trapstar IMHO

what I think you are reffering to is

plants during daylight absorb CO2 and give off Oxygen
at night this process reverses and plants consume oxygen and give out CO2

which is why many people with a refugium light that fuge at night so it continues to be a source of Oxygen at that time rather than a source of C02

CO2 build up can reduce PH

but I dont believe a PH drop could be caused due to not having moonlights working

did you test your ph levels right after the lights were turned back on/with no lighting over the system. and what are dKH levels? You said u were dosing the KH buffer but you gave us the ph value for your system.

i dont check my dkh i just know thats the only buffer i had on hand but i think im accrediting this to ich if it was any mass drop in ph i would think the tang would die first and not the clown, she was eating perfectly fine lastnight garlic and spectrum swimming normally maybe she was depressed i toke the male away the koles ich is dropping off pretty well and the blenny shows no signs other than scraping up on my rock but its covered in coraline so atleast its not sharp rock,im going to try to find that article on ph drop in reefs i coulda swore i saw it somewhere

i think a combination of not enough aragonite ich stress and taking the male away did it,my inverts should have died first in any mass swing of ph right? and salinitys the same1.026 also my pipe organs closed except one polpy but im blaming that on the lights going out normally i come home to see them open so there use to it

when I read stuff like this i get a little nervous lol....so what is my best bet to checking oxygen levels? LED moonlights can stay on all night? i turn everything off at night.

ive never really had fish die in my 3 years with saltwater i wouldent worry about it,it was probly a build up of multiple issues but i think the t5's not being on for 24 hours along with ich did it

and its weird the same night i add a air stone that happens?

Gotcha! this is the third time i mention lighting but no one ever responds to the amount of time you can leave moon lights on. I read my box and it states 24 hour reef capable LED's is it bad to leave the moon lights on all night?
