Another good option is just to get 2 thermometers that you can check one against the other. I don't like putting glass in my tanks if I can help it, especially with mercury inside them, I've heard too many stories of them breaking.

the difference in thermomeaters readings from one to another, testkits, even hydrometers.i see how this thread went its always important to get a seconed opinion. it could be a easy fix. its the first thing im going to check if theres ever a problem
