seems normal cycle to me. 2 weeks isn't short. are we talking the ammonia and nitrites and ph only?

ph is a big one for me, usually see some swings early on before things stabilize.

0 nitrates doesn't mean sufficient denitrification. If your tank was covered in algae and there were "0" nitrates, then you have lots of stored nitrates. "0" nitrates means a very low availability of extra nitrates to put it kind of crudely. This either means you have sufficient nutrient export, (either through anaerobic denitrifcation in your rock and sand, or through algae in one form or another) to handle your current bioload. Raise the biolad without letting the nutrient export processes to develop, and you start to have nitrate problems and you will see readings on the test kit, or will notice the growth of nuisance algae, or growth in your refugium if you have one.

good advice to take it slow adding fish, makes the aquarium easier to maintain and you get a healthier pet.

i did see several swings in all of the tests but then when my nitrates hit about 30 i added some chaeto and tested a few days later. thats when i got the all 0's, and now i have diatoms everywhere. i cant control them, even with scrubbing and stirring the sand twice a day
