I returned home from my week at the shore to find an odd smell and I knew that something was really wrong I went downstairs to find the power was off to my tank the water was milky white and everthing Dead. Now I was worried about leaving the tank and I thought I was being smart so I hooked up a UPS unit to my main pump thinking that if I had a short power outage the pump would run and keep the tank going well I guess the UPS is faulty ( it wasn't new) it was good for 1500 watts and I only had my 50 watt pump plugged in and it burnt up tripping my circuit and the tank sat for I don't know how many days no circulation no light no heat and well I have lost everything Over 2 years worth of livestock corals even the snails and hermits and even the amphipods and copepods are floating I would cry but it wouldn't help Now 3 hours later I have changed around 80 gallons of water I have removed a ton of dead tank inhabitants and I am using extra filters to clean up the mess What do I do now are any corals going to make it ?? My mont cap is all pale and stringy and I cant get a good look at everything else yet I want to scream :cry::cry::cry:

Thats sucks Jim It really does , But the best thing to do is just let it be if power is out it would be better then hoping the Back up will hold it over at least it will be back on at some point, Best deal to do now is just a simple air stone and pump and leave the system running no water changing or anything just get as much dead stuff out as possible it will clear up in a day or two 48 to 72 hrs as a rule and will sparkle like they do when dosed with Vodka or overdosed it looks the same and has the same effect on the live stock . You'll see more of it as that catches on .

Start with water changes, flow, carbon etc. That sucks dude. Sorry for the mess. The thought of coming home to a similar situation scares most of us.

frustrating i know i had something simular happen but with a fresh water top up that went wrong... i suggest the following

do as larger water change as you can perhaps as much as 90% over a 5day week..and basically run the system.. your LR should recover quickly if oxygenation is restored.. then add a ned piece of LR to enrich biodiversity... and proceed carefully monitoe water parameters and look make sure you have a suffiecent compliment of crean up crew to get into places and consume dead matter in areas you cant get to..

it can be saved but it will take a bit of tinkering and patience..

LR is awsome stuff when it comes to filtration
