So after a year or so of reading and piecing together equipment I'm finally close to setting up and filling my tank. I have a Deep Blue 75 Edge and an eShopps Sump/Refugium that both came with some plumbing parts. The tank came with a Durso style drain pipe (1.75" drain pipe reduced to 1" slip in to the bulkhead") that slips into a bulkhead which has a barb on the underside. The sump came with that gray vacuum type hose which fits slightly loosely on the drain bulkheads barb.

I'm wondering first of all if I should keep these bulkheads that were included with the equipment I bought or replace them with different ones- threaded, no barb, etc.? Schedule 80 won't fit unless I go smaller diameter then I'm changing flow rate and having to replace the drain pipe that came with the tank.

What's the deal with the vacuum hose? Any pros and cons? Should I replace it with regular flexible vinyl hose?

Will a hose clamp suffice to hold the vacuum hose on to the drain bulkhead barb or is there something else I need to do here to ensure no leakage?

I've included some pictures of the parts in question. I don't want to drive myself nuts by over thinking this but I definitely don't want to screw this up or find out I should have used different bulkheads once the tank is full of water.

    Thanks for your help.

I have never seen barbed bulkheads like that. For the tank I am setting up right now I just used regular slip bulkheads and sch 40 pvc. I used the vinyl hose on my current tank and it works pretty good excpet that they are growing algae inside them, if you want to use vinyl hose you can get it in black. Cuts down on the algae and looks nice to. I thought using the vinyl hose would be easy to take apart for cleaning purposes but I was wrong it isnt. Thats why I went with pvc and lots of unions, now it really is easy to take apart. A hose clamp would work to hold the hose to that bulkhead, but they will eventually rust. Thats about all I got for you.

That's the first time I've seen these barbed bulkheads to. My only concern with them is that if for some reason the barb should break while I'm manhandling vinyl hose on or off, I'll have to replace the whole BH rather than just a screw on barbed fitting. It's probably unlikely though.

    +1

my vote is for regular slip bulkhead with PVC and unions. not the cheapest route, but most likely the best way IMHO.
