Just not sure if I have my powerheads positioned correctly. Currently, my returns are in the center of the tank and fan out to the left and right. I used two 3/4" loc-line flare nozzles. I originally had my powerheads in opposite rear corners of the tank directed toward the middle of the tank. Flow looked ok but it seemed to blow my sand around quite a bit. I have now moved the powerheads to the middle of the sides with one pointed to the front of the tank and one pointed toward the rear. Sand does not blow around as much, but unsure if this is the correct way to have them set. Here is a picture of how I have them set now.

Looking for feedback on how best to position these.

    This matters.

I keep a variety of corals.. I put my return and powerheads on the left and the overflow on the right or Vica versa.. Then you can put what needs the most flow closest to the pumps, weakes to the overflow end.

I was planning on a FOWLR to start. However, I got a rock from my lfs that had some polyps on it and he threw in a shell that had a xenia on it.

I would think you shouldn't have to much to worry about, as long as you don't invest to heavily into SPS. I have one korilia 1250, and use the right to left flow like I said. My stuff looves it, the direct flow from the circ pump blows on my toadstool.

generally No, ya want more of an indirect flow, if ya aim your power heads right, it will create a indirect wavelike motion in the tank.

I had a little free time tonight after work and decided to make some changes. I moved the return from the center to the right side of the tank and eliminated one of the 3/4" discharge nozzles. I moved the powerhead on the left side toward the back of the tank half way down from the top pointed to the right. I also moved the powerhead on the right closer to the front of the tank about half way down from the top pointed to the left. I am hoping that this setup will help the circulation throughout the tank. Let me know your thoughts.
