    Hey Roger,

The Tang I have shown in this thread, and a couple of other threads, is NOT a YELLOW TANG (Zebrasoma flavescens). Those tangs are aggressive and prone to many different types of diseases and infections. Here is a picture of a typical Yellow Tang:

I hope you can see there is quite a difference in a Mimic Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus) and a Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens).

Now, CMKll's Zebrasoma xanthurus is another story altogether. For your semi-agressive, FOWLR tank, a Purple Tang would be a great addition. They are scrappy, and they are pretty. There are a lot of "delicate" Tangs out there, but the Purple isn't one of them. ;D

    Yes they are Roger,,,
The price for the purple depending on it's size would be between $35-$75, but well worth it,,,,
My Purple has been through it's share of diseases and has always bounced back,,,,
I have had my Purple going on 2 years now and had got him when it was a little bigger then a Silver Dollar....
    Good Luck...

    Oh yes Roger,,,
They need Algae in there diet, all Tangs do....
When the Algae runs out in the tank you can buy sheets at the LFS and clip it to the glass for a snack...

I usually don't recommend Tangs for beginners, but in your case, I will make an exception. You know where to come for help. You know where your resources are and you are not afraid to use them. As long as you keep us updated often as to the tangs heath, I will recommend a tang for you.

However, I want you to keep ME personally updated as to what you are doing about this tang thing. I don't want any surprises, Roger. From the time you go into the store, to the time you leave the store with your fish and get home with it, I want to have talked about this in depth. OK?

This may seem silly and frivolous now, but I promise you will learn a LOT and we will make sure your fish surives the buying and the transporting and the acclimation and all. OK??

    hes about 5-6" long
ive had him a little over a year
i never really named him i just call him the hog because of how pushy he gets when its feeding time he thinks all the food should be his and he eats everything flake, frozen, pellet, nori, even alge disc. when he comes barreling across the tank the rest of the fish move out of his way almost like a mini tank comin thru
