hes one of the smaller species of tang he shouldnt get much larger he even might be done growing. i said in the other post about him barreling across the tank the other day he was flyin across when he saw the turkey baster (means food) he ran himself into the rock couldnt stop. he sat on the bottom of the tank for a minite shook a little bit then off he went again he did get a mark on his head from it. i think he knocked himself silly for a few lol

Blue eyed Tongan Kole is my favorite Kole tang. They have a really nice juvi color and adult color. Juvi, like many others, is yellow with blue eyes. I kept my baby(1.5") in my 30g until he was old enough to graduate to a larger tank. He was very happy in the 30g for the year he lived there.

Hey guys...all this info sounds great...but I feel compelled to throw in my 2 cents (as usual!). I have a Powder Blue Tang in a 100 gallon tank. PB's don't typicall reach but about 9-10 inches. I would consider this to be the smaller end of the "tang spectrum". Although the books will tell you that 100 gallons is adequate for this species, I feel that my PBT really needs more room. He "paces" in this tank like a caged tiger. Should he continue this behavoir in the 500 gallon, then I will assume that this is one of his peculiarities.

As for putting a purple tang in a 90 gallon tank...well, that sounds great. I do think you will regret putting in 2 tangs in a tank that size....unless, of course, you want an excuse to buy a larger tank in about 2 years!

    Hey....it worked for me!

    Best of luck to you!

well, in two years, i wont need an excuse to buy a new tank. it will be too late. :) as for the number of tangs, i think one would be sufficient, as long as he'd be happy in a 90g.

The general rule of thumb is at least 48" minimum of lateral swim room for tangs.

    :) ;) :D ;D 8)

VERY pretty, Jakets!!  How big is he?  How long have you had him?  How well does he get along with your other fish?  Isn't he also known as the whitecheek, or am I thinking of another species?

    Post more pics!!!

Edit:  I located some more info on LiveAquaria.com.  They call it the Powder Brown Tang.  Here's the info reprinted from their site, for your convenience:

[glow=Red, 1, 800]The Powder Brown Tang, also known as the Powder Brown Surgeonfish, Japan Surgeonfish, and White-faced Surgeonfish, has a brown body with a white mark on the cheek between the mouth and eyes. The pectoral, anal, and dorsal fins are dark brown with light blue highlights at the tip. The dorsal fin also has an orange stripe present. The tail is blue with a yellow vertical bar. Yellow striping runs along the body, against the anal and dorsal fins, forming a wishbone-shaped marking.

A 70 gallon or larger aquarium is necessary to provide plenty of swimming room. It is a very passive fish that will have trouble with other aggressive tangs. Keep only one per tank.

The diet of the Powder Brown Surgeonfish diet should consist of freeze-dried worms, brine shrimp, algae, and vegetarian items such as Spirulina, zucchini, broccoli, leaf lettuce, and dried seaweed. Feed three times daily.

Apparently, they have an adult color morph, which isn't shown very olftn at all.  I found this picture on a German Aquatic Site called http://www.gifte.de/ .  Here is the photo of an adult "japonicus:"
