    Ok so,

My 65 gallon flat back hex is getting worse and this morning started leaking really bad out of one of the corners.

I have access to a 80 gallon used tank for free or I can go buy a new tank and stand.

My last tank was a used one and was sitting in a garage for over 8 years. Should I even risk going to another used tank or go with a new one.

And If I go with a new tank what are the best brand out there for All glass.

    TIA,

    Greg

Sorry to hear you're going through this. It's just my opinion, but if you can afford it now I would just skip the chance you would be taking with the used one and buy a new one. There are some really good deals right now on aquarium equipment.

Yeah also gives me a reason to get a 75 gallon :p

Question though, I have my tank about half empty right now because the leak is about half way down the side so I just pulled thew water out for now and turned off the equipment.

How long can my fish and corals last like this as long as the temp stays the same?

I don't have the experience to answer that one, someone else should pop in pretty quick to help though.

oxygen is going to deplete quickly and without equipment runnig your going to have parameter issues - as there will be no circulation, and no gas exhanges

if the tank is still half full - I can understand that if you have sump fuge combination and thats where the equipment is?

what about getting the FOC 80 (check that no meds where used in it) and settng that up temporary until you get a new one of this one repaired

do you have any spare internal or external cannister filters ? you could run these in a half full tank - fill them with biological media from your existing set up ( quickly before the bacteria dies off from lack of oygen)

could your fuge be set up above your half filled tank? if so pump water from DT up to fuge and let it overflow back in to DT ? that way it wont matter that the DT is only half full

a air pump air stone combination would also be a good temporary measure whilst you are sorting better alternative out

not sure if any of the above helps , I hope someoe else has smarter ideas

This is the biggest thing you need to do immediately other than keep the temp up. When I was transferring my fish/corals from my 72 to my 125 I had the corals in my sump and my fish in a bucket for over 24 hours. All I used was a heater and an air pump.

A powerhead wouldn't hurt if you could, either.

I hope this never happens agian. The good thing is My tank is SOOOOO much better.

I will be posting pictures tonight after I get off work.

took about 6 hours to change everything and alot of work.

I only lost my Diamond goby to him jumping out of the tank last night for some reason all other fish seem to be just fine.

Cool man! You're lucky, my 65gal w/stand set me back $450 and that was with a discount. New tank/stand prices are ridiculous here in Hawaii. They had used ones on Craigslist, but like you, I was apprehensive about buying used. Good luck with the new setup.
