Just about week 7 of tank progress. We have become the proud owners of a few new fish since we gave the damsels back to the LFS. Here is a list of what fish we have been adding slowly thus far...

    *Kaudern's Cardinalfish (about 1.5")

    *Six-Line Wrasse (about .75")

    *Yellow Wrasse (1.5")

*White Spotted (white lined) Wrasse (2")

    *Red Firefish (2")

*Tang- Sold to us as a Hawaiian Yellow Tang, but I think it might be a Scopas (2")

The tang, cardinalfish, and the yellow wrasse seem to be best of friends.

And the spotted wrasse just goes about his own business, and doesn't harass anyone and no one bothers him. =) So far, everything seems to be going great with all of them so far.

We had been testing our water parameters and it was all good according to the booklet we had been using to test it, and was stable for a while, so our LFS said that our tank had done its cycling and that we could add livestock to our tank. We bought the white-spotted and yellow wrasse first, then waited about 5 -6 days and bought the 6-line wrasse and the red firefish. About 4 days ago we added the yellow tang and the cardinalfish.

Our LFS along with our secondary LFS told us that it was okay to be adding them as long as we don't see any fighting between the fish or aggression. So since they gave us the OK we bought the fish... :-/

I know Geekdafied said its early, but we thought we did the right thing by asking our LFS about it... and we might have been mislead. again.

But all seems well so far.

We did have another question though.... Would it be cruel if we put a 6-line wrasse in our refugium? Or is a refugium better left without a fish? We are making a refugium and a quarantine tank that will be separated and put on a different stand than our main tank (the 55gal).

That is a yellow tang from hawaii.

If you add a lot of fish at once, even if your tank is cycled, it will cause a minicycle if not start all over again. A fish store is in business to sell you what they have, if they dont, then they make no money. If they are the only store intown, then they can do or say what they want, cause theres not much competition in Alaska.

And this is the same site with a "Scopas Tang"

the first one looks more like a solid yellow color whereas the scopas looks more transparent...?...

Is our tang just not as vibrant because it is a juvi?

not that it matters now, but I always heard that tangs should be the last fish you add because they get very territorial. How's he doing with the other inhabitants?

That tang is very skinny. Watch him closely during feedings and see if he's taking the food you feed the others. Many tangs will only eat plant matter, even though they're omnivorous. Do you have some seaweed on a clip for him?

You guys are moving WAY too fast. Like geek said, you're going to have mini-cycles as a result of adding so much livestock so quickly. Many fish can't tolerate mini-cycles. Tangs are very prone to ick if conditions aren't perfect. Slow down, folks!

Get used to the fact that the LFS will tell you whatever they must as long as it fulfills their #1 directive: to make money. Ostensibly they care a lot about your tank, its inhabitants and your sanity, but they care most about currency. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

Boredm, that's a Banggai Cardinal. :cheesy:
