I have found that my tank is leaking on the top rim. I think it is the seam that puts the plastic peaces together on the rim that is leaking. I am thinking I can just drop the water level for a day or two while it drys and just silicone it up.

    Anyone have sugestions?

    TIA

You can either drop the water level permanently, or you have to tear down the tank. You can not place new silicone over old, it will still leak. To reseal the tank, ALL of the silicone will have to be removed and the entire tank will have to be resealed.

I had the same problem in one of my freshwater tanks---yes drop the water level a couple of inches...wet a cotton ball with alchohol to clean the area and re-silicone with aquarium silicone only. let cure overnight and top-off. I later found out the leak was water following my lid to the seam in the corner of the top rim...not the glass

K+ Pack. Band-aids never ever, ever, never, ever work. Just fix it right the first time and forget about it.

Pack, I have had good luck before, if you scrape some of it down and clean it, it will seal as long as it is totally clean and a relatively small leak.

Not to be a downer to OP, but you are very lucky. First case I have ever heard of that working any reasonable period of time. Check PharmrJohn's tank thread. That is the whole reason for the 75 to 90 upgrade. I think he tried the spot silicone technique at least three times before giving up.

    Yeah,

Mine seems to not be the glass its self. Merely the water ripples hitting the plastic part and slowly leaking out.

Question is this then, How do I drop the level of water? My Overflow is as low as it can go and does not seem like I can drop the line anymore. I am going to lower the water for a day and try to patch at least one time before I say it is a total loss.

I have access to a 80 gallon for free I just dont fee like doing all that work right now since I am going to be moving rather soon.

    TIA

I had this exact same problem on my 75g. I removed the silicone in the offending area, and redid it. Didn't work. Did it again. Didn't work. Then I started siliconing over the old silicone. Didn't work.

    Upgraded to a 90g.

Well, I guess the only thing you could do then would be to cut the teeth of the overflow lower.
