last night it started very slowly... i planned on switching from my 50 corner to a normal 48" 55 this weekend. Unfortunately the tank has started to leak much faster today (drip per second) and is getting faster every couple of hours.

I have a few choices here:
    1. take down tank and make a 2 hour drive home to store the livestock/corals in my dads tank
    2. wait it out till this weekend and switch to the 55 gallon
    3. place stuff in containers and hope it makes it till this weekend
    4. contact a professor from my school (sanjay joshi) and see if he can help

Im open to and other ideas too. please help guys :(

containers with some filtration, heating, ect.. IMO. livestock and corals should be fine for 2-3 days in well kept containers. i wouldnt spend the money on short notice patch work if you are able to place everything in holding area.

if the leak is towards the bottom you probably want to take it down. there is a fine line between just dripping fast to stress point failure and the whole tank fails.

if its towards the top you can drain the tank to the leak level and temp patch it with superglue gel until the weekend.

#3 I think. Don't want to risk a total disaster.

I agree, you can get buckets or large plastic containers or even a small aquarium and add a heater and a powerhead and you should be fine for at least a few days. You can even put it by the window to get some natural light.

if you lower the water level the leak may stop even it is on the bottom, due to less pressure being exerted b/c oh the lower height of the water. this is kinda risky though and should only be a very temporary solution.

Trent, That sucks...I would agree with lowering the water level and reducing the pressure. It should make it a couple of days. It would be better to stick to your plan, rather than rushing. I had a 75g drip for a week before I replaced it.
