I have what I thought was styrofoam was really packaging material in between the aquarium and stand. It is only 1/8 inch thick. SHould I get a piece of real styrofoam for in between the two or just use what I have. I am getting a long level at home depot and if its not perfect I was told to use shims. What do you guys use for inbetween your tanks and stands?
    Thanks

What type of tank do you have, glass or acrylic? I have a 75 gal glass tank and don't use anything between the stand and tank. I was under the impression you were not supposed to use anything in between the two for glass. This may not be the case for acrylic though. Someone else may have to comment on it.

Does anyone else not use anything between their glass tank and their stand? I thought it softened the impact and also if the tank is not 100% perfectly leveled.

I put cork board material that is about 1/8 inch thick under my tank to take up any imperfections in wooden top.

    Getting Crab out of SPS

Cork sounds great. I will get it. I have Reef Dip COral Disinfectant. I have a crab that lives in a sps stylophora that I want to get out because he chews on my Montipora at night. Will that stuff get him out? I pour some with the tank water in a bucket and submerge the coral for 5-10 mins it says

the impact of what? it's just sitting there.

if it's a matter of leveling, that's fine. if tank is already level, there isn't any point to it.

No... I have a 29gal & a 90gal glass, both are on stands directly. They are designed to be place on the stand without anything in between since the plastic trim is what come in contact with the stand. Adding anything in between that may cause your tank bottom to blow out since the bottom is no longer even & the edging may sink into the foam, causing the middle section to put stress on the glass at the bottom. Now I know that for a fact with tanks with plastic trim. With Acrylic or seamless tanks I'm not sure. I have seen heavy duty foam on acrylic tanks for padding.

Added note. If you are trying to do this for leveling purposes, I would use wood shims under your stand.
