Hey guys, just set up a new tank. Its a 150gal and it has been up and running for 8 days now. I noticed today that the right overflow does not maintain a constant water level. The level will drop about 2 inches followed by a gurgling noise in my sump. Confused and nervous I starting inspecting the water level. It seems that the water level is about 1-2 millimeters higher on the left side:angry:. This is really aggravating because I took time prior to filling to try and ensure it was sitting level!. I know having uneven water levels stresses the silicone seals. The tank is in a carpeted room, and we layed down an extra piece of carpet for the stand to sit on.

Im quite nervous, how serious of an issue is this? Do I need to drain and asses the situation before a serious failure?

I don't think it's a level thing. It sounds to me like you're developing either a vacuum or an air blockage in the drain. So what happens is that the drain is partially obstructed by either air or flow is partially restricted by a vacuum created by too much water flow coupled with not enough air being introduced. Either way, the blockage remains until the drain level rises to a point where the water pressure pushes it out of the way. Then the gurgling hits, the water level drops back down and everything starts over again.

Are you using Durso style standpipes? If so, first start by trying to let more air into the drain tube. If not then I'd recommend getting them.

P.S. 1 to 2 mm over the length of a 150 is not worrisome.

Beyond what these guys are saying... do you have a level to check it out? You could have an answer pretty fast about it being level.

I hate to hijack but I also hate to double post. Im having the same problem, only my left overflow fills up/breaks the wall/flowing faster than my right side. A level on the top part of my tank shows that the tank is level. Im now thinking the overflows much have been placed incorrectly. It is an AGA 125 RR, did you think this may be your issue as well or is it different. Also i will move this if needed.

Try filling in the holes on the side of the Durso pipe with silicone. I recently did this on my 90 RR AGA setup and it is now silent and has consistent flow. Before this fix it used to make horrendous sucking and gurgling noises. Now it is completely silent. I have also tested the drain by shutting off the return pump, allowing the overflow to drain completely into the sump and starting it up and it works perfectly and creates a nice siphon.
