So my new 55 gal will unfortunately be placed next to my wall heater. I know this is not the best spot, but it might just be the only spot I have. Any comments on this?

Definitely watch your temps very close. Radiant heat?

The big problem I see with this is not necessarily the tank being to hot, but the temp swing that could happen every time the heater kicks on. Is the heater a low base board heater, and do you have a sump?

Sorry not sure exactly what a low base board heater is, but its the kind that I have to light the pilot on the bottom and the radiant heat comes out from the top. The higher I set the thermostat the more heat it generates(obviously huh?). Yes I have a 20 gal sump.

As far as the temp swing.....thats why I was thinking of getting a chiller...would that help the swings and keep temps stable. My lights have built in fans on them. I will be putting my heater in the sump. I would hate to set this up and then it not work out.

Hmm. Was hoping you weren't running a sump so it wouldn't have anything low to the floor to heat. If you do have problems with it I think a fan placed at the opposite end from the heater blowing across the water towards the heater end of the tank would help a lot. This should blow the heated air away and help keep water temps down.

A good heater and chiller combo set up right will help keep temp swings to a minimum.

Alright, thats an idea I will experiment with once its up and running.

    Any recommendations?

I just purchased a 300w ViaAqua Titanium Heater along with a digital/lcd thermometer.

I wouldn't even consider it without one in your situation.
