My son has been wanting a blue tang for along time now. I have always said no b/c of the ick issue that comes with blue tangs. But, everytime I ask what he would like to have in the tank it is all he ever wants. He is 4. I buy all my fish from the same online store because they have always been super healthy and ick free. Well, they have 2 different blue hippo tangs. Tank raised and wild caught. I'm guessing that the wild caught aren't in their warehouse very long and tank raised are there for awhile till they are used to eating common fish foods. But, is it really worth the extra 20 bucks or should I just get the cheaper of the two and pick up a nice coral?

Tank raised Is going to be more qualified to be less stressed out then a wild caught one. They are great fish. And a splash of color for sure.

IMO it all depends on the fish, Ive had two regals... One got ich all the time, the other, rarely. Its always a chance with a tang. Try to QT it if possible.

Tank raised - less stress from being caught and put into an aquarium environment, adapted to captive feeding, etc.

Normally when I see the words "tank raised" it's indicating that the fish was bred. Blue tangs are difficult to breed because they put their eggs everywhere. I wonder what they are meaning by that?

I think it means they are caught young, and kept in an aquarium setting for some time before being sold.

Tank Bred - Born in Tank.

Tank Raised - Raised in a tank from a smaller size to a larger size, Usually conditioned for longer periods of time.

Tank Conditioned - Conditioned to a captive diet, stress and medicated for internal usually.

That is my understanding of it.

I have two blue tangs and they are simply great fish, a little shy at first, but they come around if you treat them well. They do need some space, as they prefer to sleep/hide in a cave of live rock.

You wont regret a blue tang. It will soon become your favorite fish.

My thoughts exactly...I've only heard of a few fish being bred and tank raised...I guess you could say a lot of fish are going to be tank raised like this in the future?
