Tank Regrets

Very nice will make one my centre piece one day...

 

most regrets were fish like damsels or a clarkii clown that hunts down other clowns and kills them.i regret some corals such as a carnation coral which any coral salemans that says you can keep them alive is flat out lying,they can't be kept alive in captivity,or a colt that had hydroids on it and was stung to death,zoos that had zoo eatting nudibranch.i regret using a 29 gallon high tank for a sump cause its to tall to reach into while its in my stand.i regret wasting money on a powersweeper rotating powerhead.it stops rotating all the time and heats the water alot.i regret 2 finnex titanium heaters that both stopped working within a week of the warranty expiring.i regret my short experience with led lights,waste of time.i regret owning a few of the sps corals i owned cause they were tougher to keep healthy than the lps and softy corals.

so far my only regret is trying to things "diy", i suck, although after three to four attempts i usually get the result i was after,it would have been cheaper to pay the ridiculous price for something commercial.
heres just one example; my "all in one overhead canopy with surgebox/algaescrubber/sump/fuge with built in protein skimmer", while i eventually did get it to work, it ended up being way to loud and there wasn't enough room to get my hands in the tank, also while messing with it i managed to drop my $200 pc flourescent light in the tank and fry it, after downsizing{wich caused a small flood} then upsizing the pvc pipes for the surge it sprung a leak, had to be dismantled and reglued,only to find out that while the bigger pipes could drain faster than the pump was bringing in water,now the siphon wouldn't always break and was very loud when it did,i also didn't leave enough room for ventilation and the lights under it would bring the temp up alot,i almost added a fan to it then smartened up and removed it,,its out in the shed now because i won't throw it away{that would be admitting i failed} total cost around $250 not counting the $200 fried light,and as i mentioned,it's out in the shed now and not on the tank...ahhh...good times..good times:

 

Sounds like you have not had much luck, nice to see your not giving up though...

 

i have a royal gramma in one tank that likes to change housing locations and when he moves he spits substrate all over whatever is in front of his new residence including any coral that happens to be near but short of breaking down the tank he will stay,also had a pistol shrimp & watchman goby ,little bulldozer (pistol shrimp)this little monster would undermine the entire tank had to break down tank to get them out

 

my engineer goby digs and digs always bearing a coral or 2
