I found this in the trash.... Yay me! So I loaded it up brought it home cleaned it up. Found a chip along one of the edges nothing major. However it looks like it was siliconed badly. There are a few spots that look questionable. I was thinking of taking the glass apart and redo the silicone let it dry then check for leaks. Has anyone attempted this before. It's 48L x 24W x 30H I think I got to remeasure. Big tank though.

I've resealed a tank before. Just do one seam at a time. Don't take it all apart, that's a lot more work and frustration

I think I'm going to try it. The wife is gonna be upset since I will have to use the dining room table as a work bench...... ;) Ill put some card board and plastic on the table. Did you use clamps to hold it together or just painters tape? or straps?

I wish I found stuff like that in the trash!

Do one corner at a time, and use some painters tape or some straps but do not over tighten the straps if you use them. Be careful about how tight you make the straps if you use them.

    Take your time.

This is also a good time to paint the back if you want to.

Not at the moment. There is a 3" section that the silicone is not sealed tight. I looked it over really good before I brought it home. Haven't tried to put water in it because it looks like some one did a poor job of sealing it. I think that's why it was in the trash. I have found a 55 gallon, 39 gallon, a few 10 gallon tanks. People in florida throw away a bunch of stuff. I used to install cable so people moving all the time used to throw good useful stuff away just so they didn't have to deal with moving it. ;D I'll get some more pictures of the silicone.

Chipped corners, wouldn't bother with it.

I actually didn't use anything. When I cut the old silicon away on just one seam, the tank edges were still snug.

I'm curious, are there chips on all 4 corners?
