I'm looking to upgrade my size to a larger tank and i found an interesting offer... a 96"x21"x18" (l,w,h) 150-160 gallon tank. It's a great sized tank, but to me the height seems to be a little short. I want to put a fair amount of coral and anemone in it and dont want to have my selection severely inhibited by the height.

However, the large surface area of the water in contact with air seems to be a plus.

What do you think? Need help.

Sounds like a great footprint for a frag tank, but it might be a little shallow for a display. if you went with a taller stand it might be OK, but after a while I could see that getting old. How old is the tank your looking at, how much, whats included, what was it used for before, is it glass or acrylic, and is it drilled?

    :stupid: ;D jk

I am with oceanparadise on this one. Shallow tanks look great to me. You could make a taller stand like OP suggested and that will give you more room for equipment under the tank.

Well, the guy is selling for 500 with 48" coralife power compacts (eventually replace with MH), sump system, small stand (would build my own custom), heater, filter. So basically just have to get the live rock and stock it. sounds like a steal... am i missing something?

no, its two of them, and there is a divider on the top of the tank so they fit side-by-side perfectly.

Something about long low tanks kinda bothers me, here is a pic of an 11 foot tank that's only 24" or 26" tall (borrowed from tattooreef on RC). Seems like it would be nice to check out from a couch or a chair, but imagine every time you wanted to get a close look at it having to completely bend over while doing so.

I would not go with halides on that tank unless were talking 150's. T5's would be a much better option for that shallow of a tank. no way I would pay 500 for that setup seeing as all you really want is the tank, ask to see it in person and only bring two $100 bills and i bet you'll take everything home.
