I've been lucky.. I must have good city water... I've never used ro/di water... I would suggest it if possible though....

I had a 29 gallon bio cube. I only used 20lbs of live sand, 35lbs of live rock....a full unit of chemi pure and poly filters changed out once every 2 weeks. Never had a skimmer....did 10% water changes weekly. I used a tunze nano stream 6025 for addition flow to eliminate dead spots. The filters they supply and want u to rebuy for replacement suck thats why i got the poly filter. I can go on and on...private msg me if u want any tips...i recently gave the tank to my buddy and set it up again. Im sure i could give u some useful pointers.

im with baugherb, i also just used tap water with prime, and works fine by me. wait atleast3-5 weeks before adding anything to the tank, then a clown or two (or any other fish you may prefer) and leave that for about 4-6 weeks, then your off to a great start!!! oh, and you might want to add salt to the list.....lol

I wouldnt use tap water either. What works for other may not work for you, Its just not worth the problems it may cause down the road.

As with above I have long used local tap water...but would not until I had throughly checked out first.

If you do use, use a good standard water conditioner, aerate well with a air stone before using...and last but not least, at a minimum get it tested for Cu.

    Wanna be safe, go RO/DI

    Best of luck...

I think I am going to use RO, as there is a LFS just a few blocks down the street from me. As for live rock I am crossed on how much to add, thinking from either 15 to 20 pounds. The amount of sand was the biggest "should I or shouldn't I". In my 75 gallon fresh I have a ton of sand because my cichlids love to dig and the huge dunes look great, but in all the posts it really sounded that live sand had to do more with looks more then any thing, with the obvious benifits of course. Luvreefs23 did the tunze nano stream 6025 really help with the dead spots? And where did you mount it?
