Well after a year of working really hard and loving my tank I am thinking about shutting it down and selling everything. It is very disappointing to do this but on the other hand the limitations and dedications to a SW tank has taken it's toll. I am tired of the constant work and the worrying. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to begin.

If anyone is looking for equipment I would gladly sell the items at a fair price and ship them out.

    :(

Am sad to hear of your decision. -- we all have had trials and tribulations with our setups. Some of us more then others.

And there always be challanges to overcome. ---

But I understand, worry and effort just may not be worth it. But think about keeping your equipment, as you may change your mind and want to try again in future. Am sure you can find someone local to take your livestock off your hands.

Hope to see you here again someday.

Wow hard to believe you worked all the time on a 55gal tank. With about 80 to 100lbs of live rock in one you usually don't have to touch it much. I agree with Omard keep your equipment so the cost of starting another one is not so much.....you will miss it when it's gone...:(

Sorry to hear! Has something happened recently to the tank that is causing you to give up on the hobby?

Have you thought about setting up a nano? A little less work :p

After everybody on 3reef picks through what you have, go over the the classified section on reefcentral.com

^As long as you don't mind shipping (and you have paypal) its easy :)

I hate to hear about sad endings to fellow reefers, no matter what the dilemna!
IMO, a fish tank should not be like work!!!! It should be something that you not only, enjoy spending time to keep it operating optimally, but it should be something that you take pride in and which offers you many hours of enjoyment. It is a collaboration of both learning and dedication! The many valued resources available to us on the web, in books and magazines as well as the myriad of innovative and efficient equipment to aid us in the keeping of living animals successfully for years and not weeks to months as is evident of past endeavors into the underwater world!
I would truly think about your decision to terminate your saltwater biotope! Think about the reasons why you got involved in the hobby in the first palce!!
If after this...you still feel compelled to cut short your saltwater journey, atleast you gave it though before making a rash decision, only to be worse off later on regretting and being depressed for cutting shory your saltwater journey!
What ever you decide, I wish you luck and hope you made the right decision, which ever end of the spectrum it is on!

Wow, thanks so much everyone for responding! My hubby said to not make a rash decision...to truly think it through and I am taking that advice. I don't want to get rid of it to only regret it as time goes on. So I am going to take the time to think really hard on the pros and cons.

I am a worry wart...I worry about leaks, cracking, overflowing. Since starting this hobby I have never heard so many horror stories in regards to tanks cracking and leaking everywhere. That is a very expensive fix...recarpeting an apartment would not be cheap! I will admit that I also get tired of the water changes...I find this and cleaning equipment annoying. I will admit that I am lax on cleaning equipment because I have very little room and it's the part I hate the most. I love my tank and the fishies and corals, plus like you said, all the hard work, money, and efforts put into it. I will truly have to think about this. Thank you all once again...I'm not totally gone yet!

Please do reconsider. You have a very nice tank and have grown to be quite knowledgeable :)

Would be a shame to waste so much effort :)
