If the house is built properly the second floor should be just as stable as the first so I would look at the floor build quality of the first floors assuming you can get to it. Also look into tanks that have a bigger footprint as apposed to taller tanks as they will spread the load accross a bigger area.

Man, that really depends on the condition of the sub-floor. Most ppl like to place their tanks near the wall where it tends to be the strongest. Luna

Try to put it against a wall that has a wall directly under it on the first floor.

Well, you will need to do some research.
SW weights 8 lbs per gal, an empty 90g weights between 100-150lbs,
Need to take in account the LR and LS, then the rest of your equipment; skimmer, sump/refug, pumps, lighting, stand, etc etc.
If I had to guess my system, I would have to say somewhere between 600-900 lbs

i will be having my new tank, 46 gallon bowfront on the 2nd floor in my room. I'm sure you could probably get a way with a bigger tank if you have the room

If you were going to be there a long time...

Buiild you a frame to sit on the floor. to sit your stand, etc on.. use 2x4's
Top it with 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood.. Make sure the braces on it cross the braces in the floor.. Paint it, stain it, many things could be done with it..
Make it as large as you can, and it'll give you a MUCH larger foot print..
    It will work..

    Good Luck, Larry

    .
Pretty sure there is a wall just under where the tank would sit.
