sorry didnt quite know where to post this
i have a 120 gallon reef tank that has been up and running for 7 months

i just set up my 200 fowlr this week i noticed the temp on the new tank was running 83.5 and there is no way possible since the room is 73 and i havent turned a light on yet.
so i went out and bought 3 thermometer whith 3 diff results and it was not callibrated correctly my concern is i measured the 120 and these are my readings.
so which do i go by because if the glass is correct im getting down to 73.4 at night.

    aqua controller 81.6

    digital 79.0

    glass 76.0

    laser heat reader 78.5

    thanks
    eric

Pumps, powerheads, and lights (especially MH) generate heat into the tank, and a lid on the tank will keep the heat in. That's how the tank can be a little warmer than room temperature.

If you have a heater/heaters, then your tank temp shouldn't get that low at night. Buy new heaters or get them adjusted to come on before the tank's temp drops that low.

I would say it about 79F. If the laser and digital are reading about that, then that would be my guess

Amazing how much heat those lights will generate...get some fans and increase circulation above tank.

Probably not a pump problem (inlet blocked) as temp is going down at night...but worth checking out regularly anyway...:-/

From my mechanic days, I would trust the laser temp gauge, but only if it was done in several places and you took an overall average.

That is way too much of a temp swing. Don't you have a heater to keep the tank at a certain temp?? Should keep it around 78 to 79.
