My tank is always 2degrees warmer near the top than the bottom...normal? Will this hurt anything. It stays pretty consistent 82 near surface and 80 near the bottom...

I have a similar situation. The temp in my sump is always around 2 degrees lower than my DT...

In your situation, this is mostly because of your lights!! It's quite alright, i think

Just throwing it out there... maybe you don't have enough flow to mix that water being heated by the lights fast enough...

40-50x turnover is a good amount... for a lot of folks anyway.

    EDIT:

Turnover is important - if you need to up that, go ahead. Otherwise, that temp diff probably isn't a real concern in and of itself.

I'll have to see what the temp is in my sump as well. The tank is 30" deep so I can see why the lights make it warmer on top. Just hoping this wouldn't affect corals. It has been up and running for 4 months now and going well. I want to start adding corals soon

You know what Peredhil that is a problem for me that I am adressing right now. I only have about 25x turnover. I am getting two more Korali 4s which should bring it to just above 40...Problem is I am having trouble figuring out where I can put them and flow direction etc.I have alot of LR...I think I need help with that

My tank is also about 30" deep and the temp doesnt flex even 1 deg. and I have MH. It sure sounds like not enough flow in tank. I have the return and 2 power heads to turn water. And a strong pump to get the water back up to the top quick enough to have a really powerful skim.

Everytime I add a coral I have to rearrange at least one of my powerheads ;)

Just look at how the corals are moving in the current. That will tell you if it's good or not (more or less)
