kenya tree is flopped over, and emrald crab dead.... nitrates were high did a 20% water change, tank temp was over 84 degrees....... all fish are okay, and other corals look good..... thinking temp has been like that for awhile tho, never checked it.... is it okay to bring the temp down pretty fast with some ice?

Yeah, even if you put a couple of frozen 2 liter bottles in the tank it'll take a min of 15 - 20 mins to bring the temp down a degree or something.

For a more permanent cheap solution head to walmart/target/homdepot and pick up a clip on fan. Have it blowing over the surface of the water on your tank/sump. Itll bring your temp down a good bit, but you have to watch your evaporation as it will go up.

I would try to bring it down slowly. Any sudden changes can harm livestock and result in stress.

if you do it to fast you run the risk of stressing the fish and creating additional issues like parasitic infection

If the other corals are doing ok try less extreme methods to bring it down 2 or 3 degrees

lift and create a gap between your tank canopy and your water surface
direct some fans across the top if there is a gap
scoop some water out and pour it back slowly ( this will decrease temp and also oxygenate water a little - its often oxygen deficiencies that kill live stock rather than heat)
small QTY of ice frozen RODI

or recently before I got my chiller, I used to put a 2 litre jug of RODI water in the fridge and use it from there for top offs each day

aslo check your heater in case its faulty and stuck in on position

many do run tanks at 80 - 81 degrees so you only need to bring it down a couple, but take your time with it IMO
