I have a 30 gallon tank which is about to get turned into a reef that currently sits on a big table which is under my Flat screen tv on the wall. I am wondering if by switching from freshwater to salt if it is going to be a problem for the TV which hangs directly above the tank by 8 inches.

I agree, don't do it. If you cleared the tank by 2-4 feet, that would be ok. 8" is way too close since air bubbles will break and cause salt creep, like mentioned above.

salt from the tanks ruins electronics. a buddy of mine had salt build up inside his computer and fry it.and humidity from evaporation shortens the life of flat screen tv significantly.

That'd be the best route to go. I'd be as worried about the humidity and the lights near the LCD damaging the TV or TV mount failure followed by gravitic fish tank collapse.
