So I was hoping to get some advice from some expierenced reefers. I Currently have an established 24 gallon aquapod and hope to have my 120 set up with water and non live sand in a couple of weeks. My question is if I take all but 1 rock out of my aquapod and stick it in the 120 do you think I will get a cycle? There currently sitting about 6 inches from eachother so when I pull the LR it wont be out of the water for more than a few seconds. I also have a sponge in the filter section that has been in there for a couple of weeks that when i get my 120 going im going to pull that out and stick the sponge in the sump to help things out.

Do you think my tank will have to cycle or will it be ready?

When I do a water change in the 24 gallon I was going to put the old water in the 120. What do you reefers think.

I agree with everything but the water. Water doesn't hold the beneficial bacteria like the live rock does. If the water params are good though its certainly not a BAD idea.

You should be fine by moving the rock into the 120, just don't add any new livestock immediately. You can also have the rock out for a while without any negative consequences. I doubt you will have a cycle, just keep whatever you have in the 24 in the 120 for a few weeks, then you can add more rock and livestock.

sponges will die if exposed to air and you will experience a mini-cycle regardless just by moving the rock but nothing too serious just dont put anything in until params are good

I think he means a sponge filter element, not a live one, should help seed the tank with bacteria.
