Trying to do my homework for a tank upgrade. I possibly want to go even bigger around this upcoming tax time. I want a 72" tank with at least 30" thickness.. and at least 25" tall.

Glasscages has that exact same dimensions for quite cheap.. but I also heard they tack on for any extras to make it reefready etc. I have also heard good and bad things about glasscages.

LFS here quoted me some prices on perfecto's and aqueon tanks.
Also the marineland 300g deep dimension. The perfecto 220 is only a 48" tank though and I really want a 72" tank but may be able to swing the 48" over with my girlfriend easier. The tank I have now is a 72x18x21 125g long. I already have 48" 2 (250)w MH's with pc actinics. So would fit right on the perfecto. Even though it is more water is 2 foot shorter. I am not sure what to do. Is there really that much difference in swimming room on the 220 compared to my 125? Yeah it has 2 more feet long but the 220 is quite thick and much taller. I like some big fish (lots of tangs, etc).

Just tossing it out to get ideas, brainstorm, etc.

I plan on buying mostly new equipment if I can, tired of having used cheap crap. Going to do this one right. I may just end up going with the marineland 300g and be done with it.

Also, do they make stands factory for these or would I be better off making my own? just worried about that weight on something I made.

Go long. Taller does not offer any more swimming room. Fish go front to back, side to side. Not up and down like a jellyfish ;) And the other thing would be lighting. With 250W's like you mentioned, you are going to be right at about 24". Any deeper and you need more powerful lights.
The other thing I would keep in mind is the PITA factor. 24" is plenty deep for me, and even at that depth it's a pain to move a frag if needed that I cant get with the tongs. Much deeper than that, and your going to need to go swimming ;)

Agreed Agreed.. my tank now is only 21 but it is on a 4 foot stand.. with a 8 inch hood that I have strapped down.. so yeah.. getting to the bottom sucks.

Well I have never bought a new tank.. so I am open to suggestions... I dont know manufacturers.. places to buy.. anything.. except for glasscages.. i know I want 72" and at least 30" thick or so. Glasscages has that 72x30x25

Anyone make a 72x30x24? i know there is a 72x24x24 but that isnt much bigger than what I have. i definately want a much thicker tank to make this upgrade worthwhile

I got quoted on the AGA RR 210 72x24x29 for $1399 from the LFS...
If those dimensions were flipped that would be nice....
    If it were 72x29x24

as far as the stand goes. if your handy with tools, quite easy too make a nice, strong stand. quite a few have made their own here , with great success. and alot cheaper than getting a custom stand. and can also make it really nice too. i would guestimate , and thats lumber prices here , 300 would make a beauty.

Not bad at all.. and a hood would be quite easy too..
What about tank ideas though.. from what I read about glasscages I think I will stay away from them. I really want a 72" tank for sure.. that is thicker than tall
