    ^I dont think he has one atm....he was asking if he should get one.

    The only benefit I've really heard of is a place to put carbon or other chemical media if you don't have a sump.

    How long are you leaving your lights on? The lights are feeding the algae. A CUC will also help with the problem.

    This is normal. even if all the equipment and LR are from an old system you will get this type of algae bloom. You will likely get a brown algae bloom next. Not to worry a tank only 3 weeks old needs to go through this type of 'cycle'
