About a week ago I tryed to drill through my aquarium bottom. The glass was tempered and shattered. I took out the broken bottom panel and I bought a new peice of glass 36x12x3/8. I siliconed it back in using the silicone I thats clear from lowes. Do you guys think it will hold alright? Its a 45 gallon tank so if the bottom fails that would be bad if you know what I mean.

if the glass that you siliconed was clean, you will get good adhesion. imo you should be good to go. but a water leakage test would be your first order of business

Thanks so much for the advice. A water test does sound like a great idea. ;D Oh one other question, I found out it was pretty easy to take the trim off. Do you think I could take the trim off the top? I love the look of the trimless tanks.

I would not take the trim off. It helps to hold the tank together even though it may seem flimsy and useless.

+1 on the trim. It helps take the load off the glass when it expanse from all the water pressure. Leave it on. If you wanted to you could get a glass company to cut a trim for you. It would basically be a 2" band around the entire top. Almost like a glass lid but with a rectangle cut out of the middle and silicone that to the top.

The rimless tanks you see are made out of thicker glass then normal tanks, keep the trim on or do a Euro style brace.

Thanks for the nice comments and replys, im just glad all I had to do is replace the glass panel instead of buying a new aquarium. It was actually a lot less work then I thought it would be.
