    Tanked = Wasted Air Time

    And that is even when I do turn on Animal Planet. There could be something else that is interesting and educational to watch.

    I would imagine that all them tanks come with a maintenance plan for a period of time to make sure the inhabitants make it past the cycle or for Tv's sake I'm sure it's a couple days process. It would however be interesting to see updates on the tanks. In the beginning they were using regular water. Then I noticed they started using the natural sea water in boxes. When they did Tracy Morgans shark tank they had a whole truck load of that stuff.

    They use nutrisea water. No cycle time needed.

    LMAO.... you guys are all funny.... OMG they don't wait 2 months for a cycle before adding fish, neither do I. Infact I started adding my sps about a week after I set up my tank. There are ways around waiting for a cycle, sorry to rain on your bash parade :)

    At the end of the day it is still a tv show that is meant to be entertaining not informative. If they walked people through the whole "proper" process there would be nothing else to show every episode. Personally I think it is a great show for the hobby and gets people interested in the hobby..... just like finding nemo did. That show certainly wasn't informative either but it brought many people into the hobby and into LFS and onto sites like this which helped boost the hobby, and sites for information. Yes there are going to be ****** bags that see the show go to petco and buy a 1-55g thinking their a bad arse now and throw some fish in it, but guess what... even without the show people do that. However, because of the show some people actually get interested and research how it is really done because they want to do it right and actually give a damn.

    You can attempt to bypass mother nature all you want but NOTHING is more beneficial than time. Not saying you cant be successful but there is something to be said about a longterm established reef aquarium vs a newly setup one. The point isnt to "bash" tanked because they add fish right away. They overstock and crowd fish where any reasonable hobbiest will tell you it will not work long term as well as building tanks that get pounded on like the skateboard ramp that will cause constant stress to the fish. I see your point about it getting people into the hobby but I hope people research before following the shows advice and ending up wasting ltos of money and killing livestock. Finding nemo made a lot of people run for clowfish and blue hippo tangs and is responsible for many hippos going into a 10 or 20gal.

    Put some thought into this.
    First, the show does not offer bad advice. In fact, they offer NO advice.
    Second, these installations cost tens, and maybe even hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases. If the installations weren't successful and lasting, people who spent that kind of money would have made a huge outcry at some point since the show bagan to air.
    Third, word would spread and their business would die if their installations flopped.

    We are seeing a digested an contrived version of what really takes place, in my opinion.

    Take the show for what it is, entertainment. I enjoy reading about build threads on this website and that is really all the show is. I'm sure there are aspects of the build that we do not see (they say these are built in a week or two, but I very much doubt the planning proccess is down in that amount of time. Things are expedited for the purpose of viewing. Who wants to watch them build and fill one tank over the course of one season (2 months?).

    In regards to people asking who, if anyone, takes care of their tanks after their set up.. I have read on another forum that the ATM guys force their big customers into signing a contract for their people to maintain the tanks for 4 years. Which is kind of smart on their part, cuz that's even more money for them after the initial building costs, and also smart for these people that want to own a huge tank with extravagant fish, and don't have the slightest clue on how to maintain them.

    One huge pet peeve I had with one of their episodes... They built a tank that was around 350gallons, and showed the skimmer they put in... Which was a Coralife Super Skimmer 220! WAY undersized for that tank!!

    ^^ this +10000

    the people that made the choice to put this show on the air are very informed when it comes to what people will watch and what they will not watch. they have it down to a science. they realize that no one will want to watch the process of them waiting weeks/months for a tank to cycle before adding fish.

    its like a cooking show, you throw in all the ingredients and then fast forward to the finished product.

    I watched tanked because its a very entertaining show and the stuff they build is nothing short of amazing. I also don't wait months for a cycle. All the great products out there and live sand and bacteria are designed to make this hobby easier for everyone. I've never had trouble adding fish the next day. I have 3reef for information, my tv is for entertainment and that's what tanked is about.
