I missed it and will try to catch the reruns since I don't have a dvr or recorder. Sounds like it will cause lots of problems with unrealistic expectations.

Yep, Im thinking all of these reality shows are getting to be a bit much!

Ive seen some serious backlash with Extreme couponing... now cant wait for the crap with tanks.... probably get ready for hiked up prices for a while and a bunch of fishy fatalities!

They have reality shows for everything now. I really hate "16 and pregnant". I think it sends out the wrong idea to teens. Even if prices do get hiked up temporary due to this new show, there is still Ebay, Craigslist, and a lot of people that sell frags and what not out of their own homes. I think those of us that make good contacts in the hobby will be just fine lol.

I also watched the show, and I think they have a few good ideas. I don't like how they just put new fish right into a newly setup tank though. That really sends out the wrong message!

I didnt see the show, but looking at the website and the tanks these guys have been in the business for a while. Something tells me there is behind the scene's rock culturing, procressing, chemicals and other things in use, that we know and expect but didnt see. These guys couldnt be total toss it in the tank boneheads and make it, they had a name before tv recruited them.

Just like the OCC reference. Having worked in, on and around motorcycles, you are very lucky to get every new bike to start and be perfect on the first start, nothing is ever loose or needs adjusted, but it seems to happen on nearly every episode of OCC. Remember biker build off where every bike started on the last second?

It's all what makes for TV ratings.

98% of people would change the chanel if they went through all the cycling/acclimating/whatever process. its all about ratings after all, not everything ya need to know about setting a tank up. im sure they prob are smarter than what it shows on the program.
havent seen it yet, but looking forward to it.

I agree with both you 100%. I'm sure they do have all their sand and LR already in cycled tanks so they can just almost instantly cycle a new tank and put fish in. But, that is kind of the problem. People out there that are just watching the show and know nothing about the hobby, will end up going to a chain pet store and buying a tank/stand and everything they need to start a tank along with fish. They will not know anything about testing prams and the "cycle".

The show is very cool, but I wish they would show more of what has to be done in order for them to be able to almost instantly put fish into a new setup.

The same thing can be said with any reality show. I remember looking at CL & ebay as the chopper craze started to slump off & you would see all kinds of rolling chasis & bikes in various stages of construction for sale. People bought all this stuff then found you cant build a bike in 2 hours.

Look at how many people got hurt trying to do thier own jackass stunts for tv and youtube.

I was living in Alaska when all the IRT, deadliest catch & all the other Alaska shows kicked off. You would not believe how many adds in the paper, online & even people bought tickets and showed up expecting to walk onto these jobs makes millions & be famous.

Or like one of the other posters said how being a 'teen mom' is cool. I still think they should have casey anthony host next season, but lets not go there.

Yes unfortunately there is going to be a lot of livestock that pays the price in part because of this show. We all know there is alot of people going 'oh that fish is pretty' and running the LFS, picking up a harelquin tusk, lionfish, and moray eel for thier brand new 20 gallon tank that the LFS is more than happy to line thier pockets with the profits. Remeber the consumer wont be completely at fault, there is LFS's out there to support the evil as well.

Truth is we as Americans can be really easily swayed into doing damn near about anything TV shows us.

I agree, completely. They appear to have some great work. But even being a TV show, I wish they would go more into what goes on behind the scenes. I'm sure part of the reason they don't is that even if it wasn't a TV show..the people buying these aquariums aren't caring for them. They stand there and look at all the pretty fishes while someone is paid a million bucks to do all the work for them.

Those you've been here long enough to know that using veiled profanity on 3Reef is a no-nowealthy clients with 2 reef tanks in their mansion - I'm no liking them so much.

They are better at building displays than aquariums. The design element is awesome. But there fish hobby part is lacking in the show. It's another custom build show (can you imagine how long it would take to shoot a show that does it for the actual reef... you would need years of footage)

Remember, this is an aquarium show for non aquarium people... Cycling, bacteria, and filtration isn't dramatic lol
