Thats the way build shows are though. Motorcycles are one of my other hobbies, and back in 03-06 when occ, west coast, biker build off and all that were in thier hey day, the shops and market were flooded with people that thought they could order some parts online and slap together thier own custom machine. Just like this the show thiers is enough to make the build look cool to remind you the antics are motorcycle based. This show is the same way for aquariums.

It's entertaining. Though I'd like to see how many of these fish actually survive after a week. They overstock like CRAZY. I mean, they put like 10 tangs in a 56g 3' gum ball tank! I also don't like how they try so hard to be funny. "oo, I'm Gunna put hot sauce on Brett's burger" WTH does that have to do with aquariums? But that's reality tv for you. Plus the coral inserts are just ugly. It's obvious these guys are acrylic handymans not true aquarists.

And they add like 30 fish all at once to uncycled tanks...?

Have you ever heard of EDITING? One show takes 3-4 weeks to tape if not longer. All we are seeing is the finished product and NOT what's really going on behind the production of it.
Plus they use only RO/DI water, NO live rock. What's there to cycle?

Even so, they CLEARLY film them setting up a tank, filling it with water from a garden hose and then adding all the fish. I'm referring to the episode where that kid proposed to his girlfriend with the fish tank.

Has any one seen the Mafia tank they built? I always wondered how well those TV's would do, those things get pretty hot and with the acrylic being so thick I wasn't sure if they would stay cool enough.

+1 Nobody who isn't in love with the hobby is going to understand, let alone sit through 30 minutes of someone talking about the best skimmers and how to dose carbon and stuff like that. They want to see bad ass (but really shouldn't be useable) tanks that look cool.

We still didn't get to see the complete setting up of the tank. We may have seen a garden hose but we didn't get to see what it was hooked up to. But as reefers we KNOW the real deal! The average viewer doesn't and couldn't care less :(
