I believe the taotronics lights say to be placed at a minimum of 10" above the water. That's the biggest obstacle i have to face is how to hang the lights. DBOSHIBBY has a great idea, just takes a little ingenuity i suppose.

Mounting height depends on the depth/dimensions of the tank. What type of corals you are keeping and power/optics of the fixture. There is no standard height.
    Real nice setup DBO.

I have an 18' high ceiling over my DT too.
I build a simple 'H' out of 2x4's and it stands on the floor between my DT and the wall for a stairway behind it.
From that I put some white/powdercoated shelf/clothes rod hangers from.
I was using just the two points, and now actually have a large dowel like a closet clothes rod on it so I can hang all 3 of my LED's, and move them side to side.
I simply slid this down inbetween, and it does not fasten to the wall or the DT stand- but merely rest's there- it's stable- no problems in well over a year.

For my 180 build, I'm going to be putting the 3 led's in the upper canopy, and not hanging them from anything- which will look a bit cleaner as well.

Wow, nice set up! That's a long tank, is that 8 ft long?

    Here's my current 'little' tank

Ya know I'm not hate'n Jerry. Just saying.
I am so happy with the lights I got off Ebay and Amazon (giftcard)!
All 3 are now full spectrum and dimmable.
At my WRS party Jan 18th 2014- Tom brought the Par meter and WOW, I even turned them down even more after that!
I'm getting crazy new color and growth now.

I'm continuing the hijack here, just stay in your seats!

What do ya know, it is a little smaller than my 'little' tank!

    It looks great

We'll now turn over the controls back to the OP!
    What were we talking about?
