Taotronics strip lights

Making a custom led fixture using 16' of taotronics rbg led strip lights. Ive laid them horizontally with two columns perpendicular on empty space on the horizontal strips. These are rated at 25w per 5meter which is fairly low I know but they are about 4800 lumens.

Any thoughts or is this a useless venture?...

 

Just buy an rgb led fixture, 5 meters is 15 feet, so you have about 25 watts with one of those. A 16" fixture will have about 120 watts

 

5 mters is actually 16.4 feet.

I am buying the fixtures (two more from you actually) this is strictly an experiment. I know the wattage is lower but since the luminosity is similar (5000 for 120w 4650 for 25w) I was under the impression it should get some results. Im no expert thats why I wanted everybodies take on whether it was even doable.

I just have some friends and family that I frag stuff out for and kind of keep them running on hand me downs and diy stuff. Thats why it interests me. For me personally I dont think I could switch after using that RGB unit from Reefbreeders. Cant wait to do the others!

 

Lumens is a measure of all light reaching a sensor. You want to look at PAR and preferably PUR for comparison purposes. A reasonable comparison is watts per LED to give you an an idea of the effectiveness. I rather doubt you will get more than a change in the look of your lighting with the light strips. I bet the strips are meant for blinging out a computer case.
