never tested it and find it misleading. the number is no indication of what it is... might be calcium, might be copper, might be anything. you can have cases of good high TDS readings and of terrible low TDS.

I use them on my RO/DI to make sure my filters are doing their jobs.

I have enough problems in this hobby to worry about algae. lol. 100% RO/DI for this guy. My tap is 250 TDS and my RO/DI water is 2 TDS. not quiet zero but damn close.

You might use tap water for yourself but to suggest other people to use it is not so smart.

RO/DI water will always be better than tap water. Its simple physics.

RO/DI here. I would never leave my tank up to chance using tap water. Obviously it works for some people, for others it's been the reason they end up taking down the tank or having the tank crash on them.
There's too much potential variability in tap for me to trust it. You never know when the water treatment plant is going to change their dosage of something, or change their purification/filtration methods, or when your neighbor decides to start using fertilizer on their lawn/field that starts seeping into the groundwater.
Tap water might work fine for a hundred years but it only takes one day of something getting messed up on the water's way to your tap for it to crash a tank.

I use tap water, but I do live in an area with some of the best water in the country.

Tap water is inconsistent at best. Its a crap shoot and not worth the risk.

    100% RO/DI from day one.
